What’s New for 2024?

2024 marks the debut of the GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. Designed with heavy input from notable off-road and overland vehicle parts maker American Expedition Vehicles, the AEV Edition takes the already capable AT4X a step further. Not only does it get stamped steel front and rear bumpers for added trail durability, but it’s also fitted with a set of beadlock-capable 17-inch wheels wrapped with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT tires. Other features include five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates protecting vital undercarriage components and a bed-mounted vertical tire carrier with a full-size spare wheel.

Who’s It For?

That depends on which Canyon trim you choose. The Elevation offers the jack-of-all-trades experience that fits most mid-size pickup truck buyers’ needs. The AT4 and AT4X are for the adventurous individual in search of an equally rugged truck with enhanced off-roading capability. Meanwhile, drivers who want the finer things in a pickup truck will love the Denali and its premium styling and features. 

Real World Performance

While Canyons of old offered multiple engine choices throughout the range, the current model narrows it down to a single, yet solid offering. The 2.7-liter TurboMax packs quite a wallop for an inline 4-cylinder, delivering an impressive 310 horsepower while offering a blistering 430 pound-feet of torque. Whether you’re towing your favorite bass boat, hauling gardening supplies, or tackling the usual everyday commute, the 2024 Canyon offers ample power to get the job done. An 8-speed automatic transmission helps put power down to the pavement. With four selectable drive modes to choose from, you can also control how that power is transformed into motion. The AT4X even offers a special drive mode, Baja Mode, that’s tailor-made for high-speed off-road driving.

Choosing the Off-Road Suspension Package with select trims gives you a 2-inch factory lift. However, the AT4 and AT4X up the ante with a plethora of off-roading enhancements, from special dampers and a more aggressive factory lift to front and rear electronic locking differentials. The 2024 GMC Canyon also gives you awareness of your surroundings with up to 10 available camera views. The underbody camera views will come in handy for your next rock-crawling, trail-blazing adventure.
